German Record Critics’ Honorary Award for Keith Jarrett

Keith Jarrett has won the Honorary Award 2016 of The German Record Critics Association.

In its statement regarding this «Certificate of Special Merit» the jury calls Jarrett  «one of the outstanding musicians of our time» and says: «For five decades Keith Jarrett has been not only a jazz pianist who explores the expressive possibilities of his instrument, but also a virtuoso traveler between genres and sound cultures who is highly conscious of musical forms.»

The German Record Critics’ Award («Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik») was established to set the «most rigorous standards for achievement and quality» in the field of music recording. Its prize jury consists of music critics, writers, musicologists and editors in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Their Annual Awards («Jahrespreise») are presented to outstanding productions, and Certificates of Special Merit («Ehrenurkunden») are presented to artists and producers for lifetime achievements in recording.
