NAGLØED

«Everything Is In Everything Else»
ICARUS

The Belgian, Ghent-based trio Nagløed’s second album, Everything Is In Everything Else, was released seven years after its debut, full-length album, NowHere (2019,), which featured Norwegian trumpeter, Arve Henriksen, on one piece. Now, Nagløed, who described itself as a «crossover project of Thom Yorke, Nils Frahm and Mark Guiliana», offers a more acoustic sound and more room for improvisation.

Nagløed – guitarist and vocalist Dillian Fevry, drummer Andreas Lagrou, and keyboard player Matthias Dewilde – offer ten atmospheric, lush, and cinematic pieces that are spiced with melancholic vulnerability. These pieces are clearly inspired by Terje Rypdal’s Early ECM albums, Eivind Aarset’s hypnotic bibes, and Jakob Bro’s chamber jazz. There is everything in Everything Is In Everything Else’s carefully produced, ambient-dreamy soundscapes -sparks of prog-rock, rouches of chamber jazz, lyrical, dramatic songs, and reserved forms of improvisation.

The trio says that this album reflects the life transformations of Fevery, Lagrou, and Dewilde since recording the trio’s debut album, «in all its beauty and Ugliness». According to Nagløed, Everything Is In Everything Else is «a philosophical journey between life and death, between joy and loss, in which we slowly realise over the years how everything is connected». But even without arguing about the philosophical merit of such an ambient journey, this album offers an intimate, nourishing, and contemplative sonic haven, away from the current troubling days.
