Tachube is a new Novi-Sad-based trio featuring Saint Petersburg-born experimental, electroacoustic, and noise artist, alto sax and fluteophone free improviser Ilia Belorukov, with Serbian bassist Marko Čurčić and drummer-percussionist Nemanja Tasić, both with a background in free jazz, ambient jazz, and psychedelic dub reggae. The trio’s debut album, Mincminc, was recorded in Novi Sad in January 2025.
Mincminc is a product of the genre collisions and diverse experiences of Belorukov, Čurčić, and Tasić, with a strong leaning into an atmospheric, dub-tinged kind of free jazz. The six pieces were free improvised in the studio and highlight Belorukov’s extended breathing techniques, Čurčić’s effects-laden bass, and Tasić’s experiments on a minimized drumkit.
Tachube sounds as if it is still searching for the right equilibrium and has not refined its own aesthetics, still undecided if it is bold enough to go the extra mile and explore experimental, fiery, and restless free jazz territories, or to cling to the comfort zone of ambient, psychedelic jazz. But sometimes the exploratory process is enough, when Tachube extends its dynamics into adventurous mode on «Platen» and «Rwong».
