Three American veteran masters – soprano sax player Dave Liebman (b.1946), who also alternates on wooden flutes, drummer Billy Hart (b.1940), and percussionist Adam Rudolph (b.1955), who initiated this meeting, alternating on piano, keyboards and live electronics (and took the cover photo), in two live free improvised performances at the small club The Stone in New York on the end of March and the beginning of April 2023
Rudolph describes Beingness as «the source of inspiration that moves silence towards its manifestations as form in sound. Each gesture animates in the infinite space between thought and non-thought awareness. The fluidity of spontaneous sonic projections reflects the essential being of nature, which is change».
The seven pieces suggest conversational and compassionate dynamics of spiritual free jazz, swinging between the «Transparent to Transcedence», as one of the pieces is titled. The music reflects the wisdom and the extensive experience of Liebman, Hart, and Rudolph, who opt for an urgent and bold, even raw search for timeless, powerful melodies and invigorating grooves, and let themselves surrender to the art of the moment, while remembering the future (as another piece is titled).
