Mandagsklubbens program for februar

The artist in residence in the month of february is none other than the great Tomasz Dąbrowski (picture)
Praised by DownBeat Magazine as one of Europe’s most versatile and curious players, Polish-born trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski – Scandinavian-based musician and composer makes music that whispers then screams; beautiful, open melodies merging into non-trumpet-like noise.

With nine albums released under his own name and dozens of recordings as a co-leader and sideman, he is considered as one of the most active and gifted trumpeters and composers in Europe. Dividing his time between solo projects and cooperating with some of the finest musicians of the day in Europe, South America and Asia. His strong, instantly-recognizable sound and expressive playing are inspired by Eastern European folk, free jazz and contemporary avant-garde music.

Tomasz has mostly been known for his work with TOM TRIO, Japanese quartet AD HOC, FREE4ARTS, OCEAN FANFARE, and string of concerts S-O-L-O: 30th Birthday / 30 Concerts / 30 Cities. The youngest member of Globe Unity who worked with great artists, such as Tomasz Stańko, Evan Parker, Kris Davis, Michio Yagi, Hiroshi Minami, Tyshawn Sorey, Fredrik Lundin, Maria Faust, Riccardo Del Fra, Michiyo Yagi and Marilyn Mazur. Dąbrowski is a member of a Danish musician-run collective and record label Barefoot Records.

Tomasz Dąbrowski is a musician, composer and educator that has always been rejecting the conventions of lineup choice: starting with a trio without a harmonic instrument, forming duos with drums and a trio with piano and drums to playing solo trumpet concerts. Working with string orchestra, writing for big band and experimenting with dance and theater. Always looking for new sounds, textures and forms of expression, proving that the unconventional has its peculiar colour and is beautiful in its own way.

Yes! Its the Monday Band at 7pm each monday until the end of time. The Monday Band was formed to focus on playing improvised music in a large ensemble and draws its members from the large vibrant group of improvisers in town and passing through. The idea is to have a international band with a open constellation which connects the improvising scene in Copenhagen and performs every week. The band will play minimal compositions, improvising concepts and graphic scores composed and arranged by the members of the band. the band will have a flexible lineup each week but with a core group of artists consistently there. Copenhagen has long needed a place where a steady workshop band could experiment with improvising in a large ensemble and the MondayClub is the place to do it so welcome to THE MONDAY BAND

kl 20:00
Kjetil Mulelid Trio
Kjetil A. Mulelid – piano
Andreas Winther – drums
Bjørn Marius Hegge – double bass

The Kjetil Mulelid Trio has been heavily praised in magazines such as «The Wire», «International Piano Magazine» and «The New York City Jazz Record», for their two albums “Not Nearly Enough To Buy A House» in late 2017 and «What You Thought Was Home»August 30 last year, both released on Norway’s prestigious Rune Grammofon label. The three persons are forming a classic acoustic piano trio focusing on Mulelid’s compositions expertly balancing energetic, rhythmically complex and harmonically rich music with beautiful evocative melodies. While the trio incorporates that sense of calm, unhurried yet constantly unfolding sound world which is distinctively Scandinavian, Mulelid, in concert with bassist Bjørn Marius Hegge and drummer Andreas Winther, effortlessly conjure additional layers, tones, and textures, based upon group improvisations, and informed, in large part, by each others diverse musical experiences. In recent years they have been very active on the European stage and are now on a small northern Europe tour, including the epic 5e!

Osgood is back at the club, which happens regularly as well. so there is no reason why this shouldnt be one of the many great sets at the club.

This group «mixes poetic-furious, protest pop songs – all sung in Swedish – with fiery sparks of free jazz.»

Essential, earthy, joyful and primitive, a journey to the bones of the music and back through heart and lungs.
This is the absolute first time of a new Copenhagen based duo formed by polish drummer Szymon Gasiorek and italian bassist Luca Curcio.
They are two explosive creative forces who share a strong human connection but never (!!!) performed together.

…Explores Texture, sound and communication within the frame of freely improvised music. This brand new trio first met at the Jyderup summit for improvisers in May 2019. The off set being the improvisational concepts of Axel Dörner, the trio performs a live play that grows, evolves and shifts back and forth from silence into sound, around a whole lot of sound and back into almost nothing at all. The individual paths of the players emerge, cross, float along and dissolve again, like rivers around rocks. Sometimes with, sometimes against the current.
There will be notes, words, noises and poises. Hearts, risks, urges and ears. As Dörner/Lea/Lyregaard performs their sonor poetry that will be composed, executed and perceived simultaneously on the spot and only once in the whole era of planet Earth exactly like this.
