ALBERT CIRERA / FLORIAN STOFFNER

«Mow»
SIRULITA

Mow documents is the second free improvised album of Catalan-born, Barcelona-based sax player Albert Cirera and Swiss, Zürich-based guitarist Florian Stoffner, following I’m A Resonant Aircraft (Creative Sources, 2018). The was recorded live at Misterioso Jazz Club in Zürich in November 2022, mixed in Buenos Aires, and edited in Barcelona. A perfect sign of our times.

Cirera and Stoffner are fearless soul brothers who are well-versed in the art of here and now, equipped with impeccable techniques (including an impressive array of extended techniques) and deep listening, as master pianist Agustí Fernández (who released this album on his label, Sirulita) mentions in his liner notes. «You can hear a unique musical entity that the two musicians co-create simultaneously. They can be confused for one another; such is their fantastic understanding on all levels», Fernández adds.

This uncompromising and masterful set of free improvisation avoids forms, surrenders totally to the moment and focuses on sonic processes – direct and intimate conversations and constant exchange of ideas – that unfold with their own internal logic. The music flows organically with its autonomous and unavoidable power and Cirera and Stoffner simply follow its course. They let the music carry them to a range of intriguing sonic gestures, mostly intense and intense but some are also subtle and gentle.

A great performance.
