CENE RESNIK / SAMO ŠALAMON / SAMUEL BER

«Bon Voyage»
SAMO

Bon Voyage is the second album by the trio featuring prolific Slovenian tenor sax player Cene Resnik and his long-time friend and collaborator, guitarist Samo Šalamon, joined by the generation-younger Belgian drummer Samuel Ber (who plays in the Malaby/Dumoulin/Ber trio, Benoît Delbecq & The Multiplexers, and Michaël Attias European Quartet), following The Thinkers (SAMO, 2023). The album was recorded in Ljubljana in November 2025 after a short tour. Šalamon mixed, mastered, and released it.

The trio’s debut album featured Šalamon and Resnik’s twelve short pieces, based on brief and simple themes. Bon Voyage offers six, longer pieces: three by Šalamon, two more by Resnik, and the last one is a collective improvisation. These pieces reflect the trio’s immediate and powerful camaraderie as well as its mature, complex, and risk-taking dynamics developed and solidified during its tours.

Resnik’s angry «Chant for the Deceased» and «Barely Visible / Bon voyage» push the trio into the freest terrains, encouraging all to explore the most extreme, uncompromising, and unpredictable sonic palettes. Šalamon’s compositions explore a more contemplative, softer, and warmer side of the trio, focusing on its emphatic, conversational interplay, especially the evocative and most beautiful homage to the late great drummer Paul Motian, «Travelling Without Motian», except for «Weirdo» which extends Resnik’s stormy, intense dynamics. Ber integrates organically within the tight, almost telepathic interplay of Resnik and Šalamon. The last collective improvisation, «What If», highlights the trio’s powerful rhythmic drive.
