JANNIS ANASTASAKIS & PETER KNIGHT

«Feather»
ROOM40

Jannis Anastasakis is a Greek experimental guitarist, known for his innovative, deeply personal, and boundary-pushing approach that transforms his instrument into a generator of ambient-psychedelic soundscapes. He is also the visionary behind JAM pedals, a company crafting handmade guitar pedals used by Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Daniel Lanois, John Medeski, Nile Rodgers, and Lee Ranaldo, among others. He has collaborated with Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset, Christian Fennesz, Giuseppe Doronzo, Savina Yannatou, Tim Berne and Tom Rainey.

Peter Knight is an Australian composer, trumpeter, and curator whose practice thrives in the spaces between genres, categories, and cultures. His recent solo work extends the possibilities of his instrument with innovative approaches that interweave acoustic preparations, extended techniques, and electroacoustic processing via laptop, vintage delays, and tape machines. He is the former Artistic Director of the Australian Art Orchestra.

The sonic explorers Anastasakis and Knight’s debut duo album was recorded at the JAM pedals studio in Athens in October 2025. Knight says that he did not know much about Anastasakis; therefore, the whole recording session was free-improvised. «One of the things I love about improvised music is that without knowing much about another person it can take you deep into a relationship, and deep into an intense mode of communication almost immediately. It can open a space of vulnerability, of aggression, of intimacy, and exaltation. Layered and infinitely complex».

The five Feather pieces suggest layered and nuanced, suggestive cinematic journeys, «just as the feather traces its relationship with the air as it falls, flipping from side to side and turned by invisible fingers». The two-and-a-half-session was distilled into the 32-minute Feather album (mixed by Knight, who also took the cover photo). It is a dream-like, deeply immersive journey, constantly moving between shapeshifting atmospheric vibrations and psychedelic pulses, out of ordinary time and across ancient and futuristic time zones.
