A Ilha Revisitada (The Island Revisited) is the sophomore solo acoustic guitar album by Portuguese experimental guitarist Jorge Nuno, known from the alternative bands Uivo Zebra, No Nation Trio, and Voltaic trio, following Labirinto (Phonogram Unit, 2024).

The album was recorded between Lisbon and the Terceira Island in the Azores archipelago, where he now resides, and revisited familiar locations during the recording. The recording forced Nuno to face silence, solitude, introspection, and isolation, a natural outcome of living on this island.

Nuno finds inspiration in these supposedly negative feelings, and he experiments and discovers space and new, surprising, and cathartic resonances in his free improvised practice, drawing unexpected light from their shadow. A Ilha Revisitada is a conceptual-philosophical album, an ode to life and a book of memories: past and present brought together through the intuition and spontaneity that characterize music composed in real time.

Throughout the thirteen contemplative and reflective pieces, Nuno used an impressive array of extended techniques, odd meter pulse, minimalist, repetitive, and cyclical forms, and harmonic impressionism to create a whole, new, and introspective sonic world within his acoustic guitar free improvised practice.

A Ilha Revisitada is Nuno’s way to dream of the island as a place where he could resolve his inner restlessness. Nuno seeks to share this experimental, insightful sonic journey with the listeners, as an experience we can all go through, once opened, and willing to let go of what we carry within – our deepest fears and desires, dreams, and aspirations. Then, from the mist, a glimmer is seen. From the haze, resilience is established. From the darkness, we find strength.
