The Japanese experimental K Trio features poet Kei, who reads (in Japanese) and often screams his poetry while keeping moving around the performance spaces, and guitarist Takao Miyazaki and pianist Yoichi Ichikawa, who is also credited with «subjective stereophonic recording», improvise alongside Kei’s spoken word. This trio takes its experimental music to its most adventurous, risk-taking territories, with its own conception of space, language, and perception.
Parientes De La Vida (Relatives of Life in Spanish) is K Trio’s debut official album (the trio already released fifteen live albums on its Bandcamp page since 2024), recorded live by Ichikawa in December 2025 and March 2026 in three distinct spaces of different sizes. The trio uses its performance spaces as integral, active resonant elements in its aesthetics, transforming the relationship between voice and sound. Each space becomes an additional performer, altering the contours of every interaction of poetry reading and spontaneous improvisation.
Kei’s restless movements within these spaces let the Japanese language of his poetry oscillate between intelligible yet eccentric meaning (only to those well-versed in Japanese; the poetry is not included in the album, nor a translation to English, but it was described before as a «cyberpunk novel written in Taisho-era Japan») and pure sonic presence. His spoken word delivery is fragmented, punctuated, interrupted and challenged by Miyazaki and Ichikawa, whose minimalist, intimate, and deeply attentive, but Dadaist and sound-oriented improvisations rarely take over. In these improvisations, poetry dissolves into sound and sound acquires the weight of language.
K Trio offers a series of nine urgent, raw, and unpredictable conversations that keep moving between the concrete and the abstract. Furthermore, K Trio uses the elusive, disorienting, and unsettled spirit of its improvisations as a creative force.
