KJETIL HUSEBØ

«Interiors: Oscillations of Memory»
«Unseen Topographies»
«Ontology of Silence»
OPTICAL SUBSTANCE PRODUCTIONS

Norwegian classically trained pianist, ambient composer, and sound artist Kjetil Husebø turned fifty years old in May 2025 and celebrates twenty years as a recording artist of his own original music with a new solo, experimental-ambient trilogy, Interiors. This trilogy traces a meditative sonic journey through darkness and memory in its first part, Oscillations of Memory, light and perception in its second part Unseen Topographies, and introspection and silence in its last part, Ontology of Silence. Husebø focuses in this trilogy on synths, samplers, and electronics. The music was composed, performed, recorded, mixed, and produced by Kjetil Husebø at GrandisStudios in Oslo in 2025.

Husebø structured the immersive ambient music with layered, shadowed, atmospheric soundscapes, using tonal fragments, spectral textures, and resonant tones, flowing and developing organically with thoughtful, nuanced interplay between ambient depth, electroacoustic subtlety, and abstract expression. The music corresponds with the seminal, early ambient works of Brian Eno, the layered architectures of Fennesz, and Husebø’s own sonic experiments with fellow Norwegian musicians, trumpeter Arve Henriksen and guitarist Eivind Aarset.

The decision to expand this work into a trilogy deepens the dramaturgy and helps Husebø to construct a distinct sonic and emotional architecture for each album, as each album offers a holistic, listening, and reflection experience. You can consider the insistence on a trilogy as a form of resistance against the dominant streaming services and their fragmented, fleeting, and random music choices based on algorithms.

Oscillations of Memory offers a deep dive into the fragility of memory. The restless, but reserved, dark cinematic soundscapes crawl slowly under your skin and demand attentive listening and reflection. Unseen Topographies navigates further into deeper, distant, resonating spaces and patiently explores subtle aspects of quiet, meditative, and even dreamy perception, and of unseen inner landscapes. The last part of the trilogy,Ontology of Silence, distilled the meditative role of the trilogy with sustained, minimalist tones and sparse textures that encourage stillness and focus.

It is recommended to listen to the trilogy as a whole for the full effect of its highly immersive qualities.
