LINDHA KALLERDAHL

«Skin and Eyes»
HOOB RECORDS, HOOBCD133

Swedish, Göteborg-based jazz singer and composer Lindha Kallerdahl has an open and inclusive taste in jazz and improvisation. She often uses her expressive voice as an instrument and has collaborated with innovative improvisers such as William Parker, Ikue Mori, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, and Mariam Wallentin, and even with Sonic Youth.

Skin and Eyes is a cycle of seven songs, performed with Kallerdahl’s partner and long-time collaborator, keyboard player Fabian Kallerdahl (of the Musicmusicmusic and The Splendor, and the owner of Hoob Records), and drummer Andreas Werliin (of Tonbruket and Fire!, who has played in Kallerdahl’s Rainbow, Hoob, 2020). The album was recorded at Kungsten Studios in Gothenburg in the summer of 2025.

The album was made during a few session days at the studio where the trio transformed Kallerdahl’s open compositions into an intimate, sensual statement rooted in improvisation. The modest instrumentation emphasizes Kallerdahl’s expressive vocal qualities, telling a whole passionate and vulnerable story within a short phrase, even before completing the lyrics.

Kallerdahl’s songs balance freedom and structure and use her vocals as an integral element in the seductive interplay. Her songs tell a mature and wise woman’s perspectives about the power of love, its most physical and liberating aspects, the mood swings tangled with love, and lovers’ complex and dramatic dynamics. «Love is born when surrender takes form», she sings. This impressive, insightful album ends with a new, more placated, and sober version of Kallerdahl’s «Slow Down», originally released on her Let’s Dance (Hoob, 2012).
