Somewhere in the Wind brings together two American idiosyncratic, experimental guitarists – Loren Mazzacane Connors, whose music embraces the aesthetics of blues, Irish airs, blues-based rock and other genres while letting go of rigid forms, and who names abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko as his most important influence, with scholar and writer David Grubbs, a member of Gastr del Sol and the head of the Blue Chopsticks label, who collaborated with such innovative composers like  Tony Conrad, Pauline Oliveros, and Luc Ferrari.

This is the third duo album of Connors and Grubbs, who have been collaborating for more than twenty years. The album was recorded live in two crowded rooms at Blank Forms and at Public Records in Brooklyn in January and July 2025. Connors and Grubbs focus exclusively for the first time on electric guitars. The album features two extended pieces, the opening title piece, and «A Spring Was Pressed».

Somewhere in the Wind, according to Grubbs, is «the noisiest, most raucous and most free of our duo records. It’s the sound of us taking it to the stage». The title piece is an evocative, understated, free-associative journey into the most nuanced timbres of the effects-laden electric guitars, with its own intriguing conception of time and space, cementing Connors and Grubbs’ exploratory approaches to the electric guitar. «A Spring Was Pressed» suggests an even more mysterious, dark, and cinematic atmosphere, shadowed by a series of disquieting, distorted, and turbulent collisions.

Grubbs describes these evocative pieces as «something that one could instantly sink into, the kind of situation where there are no mistakes». Somewhere in the Wind offers a highly potent sonic journey.
