SATT is the trio of German Beatdenker (aka Joachim «Jo» Wespel), a sampler player, guitarist, composer, producer, «finger drummer, (rhythm) researcher», tutor, thinker, (festival) organiser, postcontemporary, and subcultural creator, Swiss bassist Christian Weber (of Sudden Infant), and Austrian powerhouse drummer Alfred Vogel (who runs the Boomslang label, and of How Noisy Aew The Rooms?). recorded at Vogel’s hometown, Bezau, in October 2024.
The 43-minute title piece is a free improvised, electroacoustic sonic experiment in nuclear fusion of countless, twisted, and seductive samples and their fragmented stream, spiky and distorted electric guitar lines, muscular, funky yet completely unpredictable electric bass, and driving, powerful drums. It is, obviously, raw, intense, and uncompromising, but at times it flirts with psychedelic, prog-rock, electronic, or punkish terrains, searching for brief, ecstatic, and cathartic climaxes.
There is no telling where SATT will find itself in the next spontaneous move. The outcome is pure, unfiltered music of the moment, blurring the distinction between free improvised avant-garde, reckless rhythmic drive, and exploration of otherworldly, futurist electronic sounds, that never loses its focus or energy. Most of the time, your reaction to this manic flow of music would be «Oh yeah!!!» (like the title of the trio’s debut album, Boomslang, 2024), give me more of this stuff.
The cover artwork is by Austrian, Berlin-based bassist and graphic designer Lucas Dietrich.
