KYN is an exceptional, free improvising, collaborative vocal trio based in Brooklyn and featuring Korean-Canadian Yoon Sun Choi, German Hanna Schörken and Israeli Noa Fort (who is also a pianist). This trio embodies the transformative power of collaborative improvisation and a shared passion for expression. The debut album of the trio was recorded at Bunker Studio in Brooklyn in April 2023.

The seven, untitled improvisations offer distinct experimental and extended vocal techniques as well as diverse backgrounds and influences. Schörken pushes towards a more experimental and theatrical edge and injects a narrative depth into the trio’s performances. Fort, who is also a Creative Arts Therapist, brings a healing-meditative quality to KYN’s improvisational expressions. Choi integrates free improvisation with influences of world music, pop, classical and traditional jazz, and her rich musical background enhances the overall complexity of KYN’s collective artistry.

Together, KYN sounds like a joyful and talkative meeting of opinionated and eccentric extraterrestrial pixies, that sounds beautiful and sensual, unpredictable and funny, and transcends familiar genre boundaries. The passionate Schörken, Fort and Choi sound as if preparing secret spells and inventive recipes that may bring some solace to our restless and troubled planet.
