HENRIETTE EILERTSEN & OJKOS

«Om tålmodighet»
NICE THINGS, NTR017

Young Norwegian, Oslo-based Jazz flutist-composer Henriette Hvidsten Eilertsen is known as a member of the spiritual jazz Andreas Røysum Ensemble and the psychedelic space jazz Billy Meier. She is one of the co-founders of the Oslo-based composer collective OJKOS (Orchestra for Jazz Composers in Oslo. OJKOS, or οἶκος, also means family or household in ancient Greek) that was founded in 2018 and participated in the Orchestra’s six albums, some performing commissioned works by its own musicians. The seventh album of OJKOS, Om tålmodighet (Regarding Patience) was commissioned by Eilertsen (her second commissioned work for OJKOS) and was recorded at Studio Paradiso in Oslo in December 2021.

Om tålmodighet is Eilertsen’s most personal work to date and encapsulates years of creative exploration and collaboration. Its ten gentle and contemplative, story-like compositions reflect different aspects of patience in both music and life and owe much to the aesthetics of the Third Stream. Her delicate, ethereal flute playing leads and shapes the delicate, thoughtful spirit of the album, and, once again, stresses the driving force of this instrument.

Eilertsen is a sensitive and generous composer and arranger who sees OJKOS as an egalitarian ensemble. She enjoys the rich, individual sonic palettes of the orchestra’s promising young musicians as well as their orchestral dynamics and demonstrates her gift for blending exquisite, composed and improvised elements in a captivating manner. Om tålmodighet sketches a journey or pilgrimage through abstract, meditative soundscapes and visits vivid and colorful sonic terrains (in Coimbra, Portugal, and with elephants).
