IDA DUELUND

«Sibo»
INITIATED, #014

Ida Duelund Hansen is an Australia-born, Danish, Copenhagen-based composer-bassist-singer-songwriter, in-demand-session musician, and co-founder of the experimental string duo Lueenas. Her album Sibo is the first album to be released under her own name and is a timeless, dream-like, surreal celebration of poetry and fantasy, written in a fictional, mysterious language and seamlessly flows between the acoustic, the processed, and the electronic, defying any attempt for musical categorization.

Duelund sings and plays on piano, acoustic guitar, bowed double bass, and electric basses. She was accompanied by violinist Nils Gröndahl, trumpeter Anne Andersson, trombonist Lis Wessberg, guitarist Rune Risager, and drummer Kresten Osgood. Duelund arranged the songs and produced the album, often to a point where the acoustic instruments were processed into abstract, unrecognizable atmospheric sounds. The artwork and videos are made by the Copenhahegn-based audio-visual artist Maya Sofie BrÞgger, and contribute to the surreal spirit of the album.

Duelund delivers her collage-like, gentle songs in a child-like, innocent yet sensual voice as if she sings the songs of J.R.R. Tolkien’s river people who experienced for the first time the works of Hildegard von Bingen, Iannis Xenakis, and Miles Davis. Despite the complete absence of prescribed meaning, these songs have their own inner Dadaist logic, and all offer a seductive space for the listener’s surprise and curiosity, fantasy and emotion.
