The playing of Slovenian tenor sax player Cene Resnik is described as a form of meditation, inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist teachings that he prctices. But the music of Resnik on «Age of Chaos» with his new trio – Italian pianist Giorgio Pacorig, and fellow-Slovenian drummer Marko Lasič, a disciple of the great drummer Zlatko Kaučič, plus special guest – American Rob Mazurek who plays on the piccolo trumpet – is far from being quiet and meditative.

«Age of Chaos» was recorded live at the Jazz Cerkno Festival on May 2018 and features an extended, 56-minutes instantly-composed, improvised piece. The only meditative essence of this music is its deep connection-communion with being-embracing the moment – its organic flow and its non-attachment to any of the sonic events. Resnik focuses on the naturality of sound and is committed on exploring the sonic depths and secrets of the tenor sax, without adding any preparations or mutating its sound with electronic devices.

The democratic interplay is enriched with the wise role of Mazurek who integrates perfectly into the trio close dynamics, always chooses the right moments to interact, contrast or to push further and deeper Resnik’s ideas. You may think that such kind of free-improvisation – one that has its compositional horizon in mind, and moves so naturally – is indeed a trance music. Resnik, his Free Stellar Trio and Mazurek just fly and travel beautifully in the air with their colorful waves of sounds, open minds and great souls..
