Norwegian, Austin, Texas-based bass player hero Ingebrigt Håker Flaten teams with fellow Texans – drummer-percussionist Lisa Cameron and guitarist Tom Carter and forms a new, exciting power trio. The debut album of this trio, «Tau Ceti» (a single star in the constellation Cetus that is spectrally similar to the Sun), recorded last year in Austin, Texas, is released as a limited-edition cassette (with a download option), is divided into two sides – acoustic and electric.

Both sides emphasize the versatility of this energetic and resourceful trio and its slow-cooking, atmospheric approach. The short, opening piece of the acoustic side, «Chronosphere», sounds as testing the resonating possibilities of the acoustic double bass, the pulse-free percussion and electric guitar in the space of the studio. The extended «SETI» sketches a minimalist and mysterious soundscape, while the last piece of this side, «We Are Not Alone», dives deeper into tense and dense drone and eventually drowns in a noisy climax.

This trio explodes on the electric sides and opens with a psychedelic freak-out of «Daath (the Abyss)», building massive walls of sounds that highlight the wild, thorny guitar lines of Carter, the low-end excursions of Håker Flaten and the powerful, addictive drumming of Cameron. The last, «Traveling Spaceways», takes Sun Ra advice and sends this trio into another spiritual-psychedelic trip, this time higher and further into deep space, fully prepared to visit the great master in this first, impressive travel.

Most likely, you would like to jump on this trio’s spaceship on its journey to Tau Ceti. You won’t regret it.
