TETTERAPADEQU

«Descanso Del Dopo Popo»
CYLINDER RECORDINGS

Portuguese, Rotterdam-based double bass player Gonçalo Almeida work spreads over countless groups. Among these groups are the trios Lama (with fellow Portuguese trumpet player Susana Silva Santos) and Albatre, Spinifex quintet and many more ad-hoc formations as the ones with Dutch double bass player Wilbert de Joode and American cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm.

Almeida founded in 2015 his own label, Cylinder Recordings, In order to present his extensive work. The third album of the Belgian-Italian-Portuguese free-improvising quartet Tetterapadequ is the thirteenth release of Cylinder Recordings. The quartet features Belgian-Italian tenor sax player Daniele Martini and pianist Giovanni di Domenico, both based in Belgium, with Portuguese drummer João Lobo, who is also based in Belgium, and Almeida. The debut album of the quartet, «And the Missing R», was released in 2008 (Clean Feed) and the sophomore, Chopingle, last year (Creative Sources).

«Descanso Del Dopo Popo» is a limited 3″CD (or a download) EP that expands and deepens the quartet aesthetics – subtle and reserved improvised textures, rich with detail and eccentric, unpredictable ideas. The six pieces highlight the attentive and patient interplay that always leaves enough space for all the musicians to search for their own aural environments, without losing the coherent veins of these pieces. The dramatic progression is implied, often stressed by scace and delicate sonic ideas that have a profound, lingering effect, as on the most moving piece, «Back to the Torture».
